Everyone is talking about how great sync is, but i tried it (and lift off, connect, summit) and all of them are literally the same. the only one i find to be unique is thunder because thunder feels like an app not a compact webpage interface. for example the leading in the sync posts is super jarring and feels like its from a 2008 forum and thats the same for most of the other apps.

except i did notice sync added ads which is a feature no one else has yet. and ad free is 20 bucks?? so from my perspective its the same (kinda worse than liftoff) as the other apps but it costs money

what is everyone liking about sync compared to the other apps? folks could just be used to sync which makes sense

also saying its more ergonomic or it just feels better isnt an answer however if that is ur answer thats cool id like to know why its more ergonomic or whatever tho

The main feature I currently use it for is individual settings for each account. I haven’t seen any other client, where I can set things like post and comment sort¹ preferences on a per-account basis.

I know that Jerboa follows the sorting preferences of each Lemmy account for sorting posts (which is great), but I am not able to specify how I want to sort the comments (always sorted by “Hot” by default, same as in the web interface). I also don’t really like Jerboa’s interface, but I enjoy the limited amount of settings in general.

Apart from that, Infinity for Lemmy is very close to Sync for Lemmy in my opinion. It is as well-designed, fast and smooth and has similar settings for theming the app (transparent status bar, specifying the density of posts, etc.). At the moment I see Sync as a stopgap and I would like to switch back to an open-source app like Infinity (which I used from the first pre-release until yesterday).

    ¹

With Sync, comments are currently broken when not sorting by “Hot”, but I expect this to get fixed in the future (it’s a beta afterall …).

    Why I use multiple accounts

I use a another account to follow a different set of topics than with my main account. With reddit I used multireddits to do this, but at the moment nothing similar exists for the fediverse, so I decided to go the multi-account route. ;)

THIS IS THE FEATURE I DO THINK IS DOPE. individual account settings is really nice.

that is a solid point for sync tbh id like to hide nsfw on one account and auto unhide on other accounts. not to out myself but i feel like everyone has at least 2 accounts
