  • I want a modern difficult farming Sim with an in depth relationship mechanic and no fucking combat. The old harvest moon games are good, but I’ve kinda played them to death and for some idiotic reason they removed stuff like rival marriages from the remakes. Rune factory has combat, and so does stardew valley (in addition to having a relationship mechanic that’s just, really shallow), and it seems like all the farming Sim games that don’t have combat are like baby’s first farm Sim and are all cutesy and aren’t very difficult

Like it feels like this would be an easy thing to do, right?

  • Stardew valley - it sells itself as a harvest moon inspired farming Sim but as someone who grew up playing a lot of harvest moon, I really can’t help but be super disappointed in it. Harvest moon games have a complex and more importantly moving relationship system - you start to go after one marriage candidate, the others will pair themselves up and have kids alongside you. People move in and out and you need to really get to know people in order to progress the game and unlock things. Stardew valley? Super flat in comparison. All the candidates you don’t marry feel super flat once you lock yourself out of them. There’s not much locked behind friendship so there’s less reason to get out there and really work on befriending everyone.

Also fucking combat - it’s a supposedly nice and peaceful farming Sim, yet combat is an unavoidable part of the game. I didn’t sign up for combat! It’s not fun it’s just annoying.

If you don’t like it as a ceral, you could try making biscuits out of it? Rolled oats biscuits are pretty good. I know I’m risking my Australian citizenship here but you could try doing an Anzac biscuit like thing to it. Super simple biscuit that lasts forever that just needs rolled oats, golden syrup, bicarb, coconut, and some flour.

Alternatively you could make a muesli bar and eat that. I know they’re not that healthy but when you’re making it yourself you can like control that sort of thing

(I personally eat muesli with yoghurt so there’s a bit of body to the entire thing, but that’s already been suggested)

  • I’ve had a 3d printer for years and I still can’t really get over how nuts it is. Like it feels like one of those things you’d read about in science magazines as this amazing super scientific thing the scientists out in MIT have in their labs like a supercomputer or some expensive toy people who build stuff on YouTube have in their garage next to the lathe and big fancy CNC table, but no, it’s just, here. On my desk. Being used to casually print stuff that I’ve designed myself on the computer like it’s nothing.

My great grandad was a carpenter and I wish I could’ve shown him it. I wonder what he’d think, seeing something that was once only in the realm of handcrafted diagrammes and days of building now a few hours of modelling and printing away.

Because there’s like a difference between a beef burger and the platonic idea of a burger. Like if I say I want a burger, you’re not going to fault me for buying a chicken burger are you? Even though it doesn’t taste anything like a regular beef burger? Same deal with veggie burgers. Meanwhile if I order a burger that looks like beef with the expectation that it will taste like beef, I’m going to be upset when it doesn’t taste like a nice beef burger but instead a rather shitty one

Also there’s tons of veggie burgers out there, maybe you just gotta try some that aren’t like, the weird “healthy” options that dominate the search results. Stuff like a big ol’ falafel in a bun or deep fried aloo tika.

…also I don’t actually like beef burgers that much

I’ve just realised that most people kinda just add the beans in direct which isn’t what I meant. Whoops - yeah nah I turn them into refried beans and add them in. Directly throwing in black beans never seems to work in my opinion. Also a big fan of just like, making a really big aloo Tika (an Indian potato cake) and using it as a burger. They’re really good and the burger king where I live used to actually sell them as their main veggie option before BM muscled all the decent veggie options out. Falafel burgers are also really good, but alas they’re kinda a lot of work because of all the soaking and deep frying.

My holy grail of veggie burgers is this one spinach burger I had all the time as a kid because they always had leftovers of them at school sausage sizzles and I’d get the extras for free. It was probably some deep freeze bulk thing but goddamnit one day I’ll make a spinach burger that doesn’t taste like some sort of goddawful diet thing.

Also honestly in general fake meat in general just does not do it for me. I’d rather eat a dish that’s veggie and works with that to make something different and good instead of trying to make a subpar copy.

This isn’t a hamburger replacement this is a homemade burger where the beans taste like beans and are mainly there because I like homemade refried beans and thought they’d be good as a burger

Also impossible burger beyond meat sale difference. It’s all fake meat that could be better replaced with something that just isn’t pretending to be anything

I personally think like the complete opposite - if there’s anything that’s a waste, it’s a beyond meat burger, because veggie burgers are like, really fucking good. Why on earth would you settle for an inferior pretend product when you can instead have a really good thing that’s not pretending to be something else?

Miss me with that fake meat stuff and bring back actual veggie burgers! I got a real nice sweet potato and refried black bean one I’ve been working on for a while now
