I can’t remember the title, but I watched a documentary on the Lego company a few years ago. iirc, at one point, when they were showing some of the manufacturing process, they showed a fucked up brick, and how they try to destroy anything like that, because people act like they’re stupid-valuable, so they try to stop that stuff from getting to the public (as I understood it) almost as a way protect idiots from themselves. I get it.

I turned off the you-filter so I can show you how easy it is to filter out whatever you like, be it whole instances, communities, or users.

spam is whatever an individual deems it to be. if 90% of posts from the last week are from one user, I call that spam. I don’t want “content” for its own sake. I prefer quality or originality over quantity.

side note: reddit stomped the individualism out of their users, the very source of their success. like others have said here, I’m not interested in seeing posts from there copied to here.

I’d like to see more engagement and interaction on here, I want this place to grow, but I also don’t want this place to only try to imitate the reddit board. I’m sure I come across as ‘old man yells at clouds,’ that’s fine, whatever. however, I think most people here would agree that there needs to be a balance. why even come here, if everything is copied and regurgitated from reddit?

then you’re going to have to get the police station modular, because the jail cell toilet has pee and poo pieces in it. and the Ninjago city markets also has the first working Lego toilet.

Anyone here have a great build experience recently? What sets (or MOCs, Bricklink series, etc) have impressed you that you want to recommend?

This set was super fun to build; I love the greebling. are there any other sets like this, where the detailing is not just a feature, but basically the entire build?

I saw some of this while browsing earlier last week and making orders.

specifically, I remember at least one store that had wild prices on something I was looking at, so I checked the feedback and saw a store with zero activity for over a year, then a few recent, suspicious bits of feedback. iirc, it was like zero orders/feedback for over a year, then a bunch of feedback from orders that were placed a day or two previously. impossible.

have you built the set already? how was it, specifically the brick-built baseplate? any interesting techniques that stand out?

decent looking set, price is more than I’d pay, even with 8 unique figs. maybe I missed it in the article, but are there other sets coming? this is the type of set I’d get if I really wanted only the build or the minifigs, and so sell the other to offset the cost.

that’s their secret: it all sells. some better than others, but once sets start going on sale (moreso clearance), that shit disappears. beyond the standard 20% off, if the prices are 40-50% off in stores, it’s all sold pretty damn quickly, ime.

there aren’t a lot of flops, afaik. the recent Black Panther bust was a bust, and the foosball set was more of a boosball. I really liked the Queer Eye set, but I think Lego misjudged the level of interest it would have. I’m happy I picked up a few of those, though; great set for parts!

I’ve also heard that Walmarts will sell off palettes of sets to employees for really cheap. either way, it all sells, and often eventually find its way back into the Lego ecosystem, ie bricklink.

who here only sees 1 photo? anyone see just 2? and who sees all 4?

between sync, boost, and thunder, I’m seeing way different results. on Thunder, there’s an option to “view all images” which opens a gallery. boost shows all 4 in the post correctly. sync only shows the post photo and the middle pic of the three in the body of the post. and no apparent way to edit the post at all, between the three apps!

I just noticed on that lower jaw, is that gollum’s arm connecting the jaw? Again, really cool details. The longer I look, the more I notice.

Very cool. I’ve always loved all the castle wizards, but of course, I like the original Majisto with the glow in the dark wand. I do like the new wizard from this year, too.

The flames around the fire… are those, like, wings from a fairy minifigure? What’s the part number?

Calling it that makes it sound like a fun whoopsy rather than what it is: a tactic to squeeze a few more dollars out of customers, while intentionally obscuring what the buyer is getting. More like gambling/loot boxes. And they don’t care if people at Walmart are tearing up their product. Lego already got paid, it’s the stores that are losing.

Really it’s just a scummy business practice. Add to the fact that they now own bricklink, so they’re making, what, 3% back on each resale?

If it’s not crystal clear, I really hate this practice. And now, with them taking it a step further in the wrong direction, just makes me more okay with buying less. Which sucks, because I really like this series. But I can’t support shit like this.
