Still Wakes the Deep. Shit goes wrong on a Scottish oil rig in the 70s, it’s sorta like dead space mixed with alien isolation and a walking simulator. Stealth gameplay with some puzzles and a decent emotional narrative. I had a good time playing it and it’s on gamepass. Short and sweet.

  • You could say the same thing for any Fallout/Elder Scrolls game, too. ‘Boring ride through the country’ < oblivion and Skyrim. ‘Boring walk to the next area’ <Fallout

Exploration is one of the most enjoyable parts of those games. It’s not boring in ES or FO because of all the things you find along the way. Walking from A to B and getting distracted for 2 hours at random POIs you find is a hallmark of these games.

This aspect was completely absent in Starfield, idk how they fucked up exploration so much.

it’s a literal SPACE exploration game, how can you complain about travelling through space

Traveling != exploration. Eliminating the load screens just leaves you in boring space with no POIs to discover along the route.

  • stand of the tide’, which is when tide levels ‘stand’ at a maximum or minimum

Isn’t that when it’s just standing at high or low tide?

Some googling leads me to find it’s either “ebb tide” or “flood tide” depending on whether it’s halfway falling or halfway rising, respectively. I’m not sure if this is exactly half way though, some diagrams make it appear that any time in between in either one of these, not necessarily half way exactly.

  • Benzodiazepine addiction. Was abusing etizolam at first then graduated to clonazolam and was getting fucked up and going to work. I have no idea how I didn’t get fired honestly. I have some videos of myself doing things and I’m clearly fucked, but I suppose I didn’t get that twisted for work. My memory went to shit and a bunch of other things did too, because who gives a shit when you’re constantly wrecked. Weight dropped from normal 185lbs to a skinny ass 165lbs. Mind you, I’m 6’3”. It wasn’t a good look.

It took me 2 years to slowly taper down and that still was a pretty shitty process. Now I’m 9 months clean and up to 205 lbs by lifting weights and actually eating.

What a nightmare. Fuck benzos and godspeed to anyone who’s been using them for longer than a few weeks. Even at clinical doses you’re going to be in some shit when you stop. You’ll be glad you did, though. I’m helping a friend quit etizolam after I told him of my problems and he told me of his addiction. He’s doing great and making a lot of progress on the taper. It helps so much to have someone you can talk to.

A less serious answer - Reddit. Fuck em for killing the apps. Lemmy has been pretty great except for a few rare encounters with tankies. I genuinely enjoy posting here, the smallness is great.

  • Antiglare coating is a must for me. There’s a reason it’s used on lenses in cameras; it enhances contrast, and for purely aesthetic reasons, makes it easier for others to see your eyes, making you look better.

High index plastic is also great IMO, it significantly reduces the thickness and weight of the lenses. Also aesthetically, it reduces the distortion of the sides of your face when someone’s looking at you. It is not the hardest material available, and I believe the higher the index, the less hard they are. My lenses are typically completely scratch free for a year or two, getting only minor scratches after that.

I’ve never had an issue with coatings. I clean my glasses with hot water and Kimwipes (laboratory lint free wipes). I don’t use any lens cleaners or any other cleaning products. I never dry wipe my lenses.

  • I’ve got a similar Cyberpower 1500, it’s simulated sine wave. It’s perfect for my desktop, network gear, and NAS. Pure sine wave seems like it would obviously be better, idk how exactly, but none of my hardware seems to care about simulated sine wave. The 1500 gives me enough time to shut down the desktop and it’ll run the NAS and network gear for a few hours. If I’m full power gaming (5800X3D, 3090, big ultrawide OLED) and the power goes out, I get about 15 minutes. Batteries lasted 3 years before they needed to be replaced, that could have been due to high ambient temperatures.
