Sometimes, initialism or alphabetism is used to refer to acronyms formed from the string of initials which are usually pronounced as individual letters

It’s a very deliberate phrasing, since not everyone agrees that initialisms are not acronyms.
Personally I think that “ackhually that’s an initialism not an acronym 🤓” is exactly the kind of ultimately irrelevant distinction that internet know-it-alls love to know and point out. I know because I used to be like that too when I was younger.
But often those distinctions are not universally acknowledged or useful in all contexts. Like how strawberries are not scientifically berries, but we still often group them as berries.
Nitpicking word definitions is pointless when the distinction being pointed out is not relevant for the conversation.
Initialisms are a type of acronym. All initialisms are acronyms but not all acronyms are initialisms.
I believe it is the Vsauce video titled The Banach-Tarski Paradox.
I was going to say “what authoritarian propaganda” because I don’t see any of that shit, but yeah, my instance doesn’t federate with those places. The strength and the weakness of a federated system, I suppose!
Good point! Thanks for the info!
I’ve been considering paying for Premium, for largely the reasons you mention.
One question I have is, as a Premium user, do you have to disable ad block/uBlock on Youtube so that YT can track which videos you watch and pay the creators accordingly?
I think it’s polite to tell what you have changed when you edit a post as long as the platform does not have edit history visible (which as far as I can tell Lemmy does not).
Because “pretty” as a modifier generally means that something is relatively so, but not completely.
Like if you draw a line freehand and it comes out “pretty straight”, it’s relatively straight but not completely straight.
If you buy something that is “pretty cheap”, it’s relatively cheap, but still a bit on the expensive side.
Similarly, if something is “pretty good”, it’s relatively good but not perfectly good.
This is looking really cool! I’m really interested in trying it out.
Since you mentioned Garmin Connect in this thread, I would like to throw in my five cents too. I’m in the Garmin ecosystem for my fitness tracking devices, so it would be amazing if the game could get my step counts from Garmin Connect, since that’s where I’m collecting them anyway, and lugging my phone around to do the step counting can be a bit cumbersome. But if the game is fun enough, I guess it’s not a dealbreaker for the time being!
